Megan Thee Stallion Faces Trial in Former Cameraman’s Lawsuit
Megan Thee Stallion will face trial over former cameraman Emilio Garcia’s lawsuit in New York after a judge partially denied her request for summary judgment on Aug. 7.
Judge Allows Key Claims to Proceed
Garcia, who worked for Megan between 2018 and 2023, filed the lawsuit in April 2024 against the rapper and Roc Nation. He accused Megan of creating what he described as an “unbearable hostile work environment,” along with allegations involving sexual harassment, wage violations and other workplace claims.
The federal court dismissed several parts of Garcia’s case but allowed a number of allegations to remain active. The surviving claims include alleged failure to pay wages, violations of state human rights laws, California labor code violations and unfair business practices.
The judge also dismissed retaliation claims under the New York City Human Rights Law and New York State Human Rights Law, finding that Garcia had not engaged in protected activity.
Some Workplace Allegations Were Dismissed
Garcia’s claims under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act were also dismissed. The court found that the alleged conduct was not shown to have occurred because of Garcia’s sexual orientation.
However, the remaining allegations will now move toward a jury trial involving Megan and Roc Nation.
Garcia’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, welcomed the ruling and said his client is prepared to present evidence in court.
“We thank Judge Woods for taking the time to review and consider the evidence,” Zambrano said, adding that Garcia is looking forward to having his day in court.
Megan’s Attorneys Deny the Allegations
Megan’s legal team has strongly rejected Garcia’s accusations. In a May 2024 response, attorneys Mari Henderson and Alex Spiro described the complaint as containing falsehoods, misrepresentations and claims they said had no legal or factual basis.
The attorneys also accused Garcia of using the lawsuit to generate publicity for his own singing career while attempting to damage Megan’s professional reputation.
Their filing characterized the dispute as a wage and labor matter that Garcia allegedly expanded with sensational accusations concerning sex and workplace harassment.
What Happens Next
The surviving claims will be decided at trial, where Garcia’s side plans to present evidence and testimony concerning his allegations against Megan and Roc Nation. Megan’s defense will have the opportunity to challenge those claims before a jury.
The case now moves into its next major stage, with the disputed workplace allegations set to be examined in court.
