Ariana Grande Explains Why She's Stepping Back After Eternal Sunshine Tour
CHICAGO — Ariana Grande used a heartfelt moment during her Eternal Sunshine Tour stop at the United Center on Monday, Aug. 3, to reassure fans that her decision to step back from public-facing work after the tour has been planned for a long time and was not made in response to recent public attention.
Ariana Grande Addresses Fans During Emotional Tour Stop
The Grammy-winning singer paused her Chicago concert to read a prepared message directly to the audience, offering clarity after news emerged that she intends to take a break from public appearances once the Eternal Sunshine Tour wraps up in September.
Grande told fans the announcement was neither impulsive nor a reaction to outside criticism.
"The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It is something that I had decided to plan quietly, a long time ago," she said.
She also rejected the suggestion that online negativity had influenced her decision, saying the bond she shares with fans remains stronger than any outside noise.
She Calls the Tour One of Her Most Healing Experiences
During the emotional speech, Grande described the Eternal Sunshine Tour as one of the most meaningful chapters of her career.
She thanked concertgoers for their continued love and support, calling the tour "one of the most healing, beautiful, correct and special experiences" of her life.
Before returning to the performance, the singer smiled and admitted, "That felt good," before telling the crowd she wished words could fully express her appreciation.
Earlier in the day, Grande also shared an Instagram Stories post saying she couldn't wait to return to the stage and see her fans in Chicago.
What Happens After the Tour Ends?
Grande is expected to complete the remaining Chicago dates before heading to London's O2 Arena, where the Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes in September.
She will then take a break from public-facing work and appearances. The singer has also exited the planned West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George, which had been scheduled for next summer.
Despite stepping away from the spotlight temporarily, Grande already has another major project on the horizon. She is set to appear alongside Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in the upcoming comedy Focker-in-Law, the next installment of the Meet the Parents franchise, scheduled for release on Nov. 25.
