Woody Harrelson to Receive Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at 2026 Film Festival

Woody Harrelson will receive the prestigious Honorary Heart of Sarajevo during the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival this August, recognizing his lasting impact on international cinema and decades of acclaimed performances.

Woody Harrelson to Be Honored for Outstanding Film Career

Woody Harrelson is set to receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at the 2026 Sarajevo Film Festival, joining fellow honorees Emily Watson, Asghar Farhadi, and Diego Luna.
Festival director Jovan Marjanović praised Harrelson's remarkable ability to bring authenticity to every role, calling his talent, charisma, and fearless approach an inspiration for future generations of filmmakers and actors.
Harrelson's career spans more than three decades, earning him three Academy Award nominations. His acclaimed performances include The People vs. Larry Flynt, The Messenger, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and the Palme d'Or-winning Triangle of Sadness.

A Special Screening to Celebrate the Award

To mark the occasion, the festival will present a special screening of Michael Winterbottom's 1997 drama Welcome to Sarajevo.
The film, which premiered at Cannes before screening during the third Sarajevo Film Festival, explores the Bosnian War through the experiences of journalists covering the conflict. Based on Michael Nicholson's book Natasha's Story, it will be shown at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema as part of the festival's Open Air program.

Busy Schedule Continues Beyond Sarajevo

Harrelson's upcoming projects keep him among Hollywood's busiest actors. He stars alongside Matthew McConaughey in Apple TV's Brothers, premiering on Sept. 23, and appears with Kristen Stewart in Quentin Dupieux's Full Phil, which debuted at Cannes earlier this year.
He recently completed work on Netflix's The Cackling of the Dodos with Sam Rockwell and is also producing a documentary about Austin's legendary Armadillo World Headquarters.
Beyond acting, Harrelson made film history with Lost in London, the first feature shot in one continuous take and broadcast live to theaters. Television audiences also know him for standout performances in Cheers, True Detective, and The White House Plumbers.
The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival is scheduled to take place from Aug. 14 through Aug. 21.
